OOV FOR YOUR TRAINING
What is an Oov?
Oov was designed by an Australian Osteopath and Neuroscientist to develop a better alternative to using a rolled towel to lengthen the spine. It is ergonomically designed to fit the human body with a three way curve that follows the natural curve of your spine. Made from a highly durable foam, it doesn’t collapse, but pushes back at your body so that your muscles must activate while using it. However, the Oov can be used for far more than back rehabilitation. It can be used to improve movement in joints, to work the inner abdominal muscles, to improve balance and stability, to build strength and endurance and more. Almost everyone can benefit from using the Oov. You can use it at home, yet certified health and fitness professionals can use the Oov to assess movement patterns in their clients, then use it as a correction or performance training device. It looks weird – even the man who invented the Oov didn’t know what to call it – so he called it Out Of Voc
abulary… and the Oov was born.
- Is sport your thing?– The Oov will help you reach peak performance, stay flexible and help prevent some common injuries.
- Is fitness your thing?– The Oov will strengthen you and improve your balance so you can reach your goals and more. Use it before a session if you are feeling a bit off, or use the Oov after training to reset your body before you finish.
- Are you recovering from an injury?– The Oov will gently help with your rehabilitation, keeping you in a neutral position for a pain free workout.
- Have you had a baby?– The Oov will engage your core muscles so that they learn how to automatically activate when you need them most.
- Is your balance becoming a concern?– The Oov will improve your balance in a safe environment allowing you to gain confidence when out and about.
- Do you have a limited range of motion?– The Oov will train your body to move efficiently. It frees up joints to move without relying on their normal ways of compensating. Over time, those parts learn to move freely again.
- Do you slouch or have tight shoulders?– The Oov will provide you with a wonderful way to relax and unwind with your body in a natural position. Just relax over it to ease pain.
- Do you have a sore back?– The Oov will strengthen the small core muscles that are responsible for holding you up. It can also help you gain flexibility in the middle of your back so that the pain and pressure lessens in your lower back.
Consider this…
When you pick up a washing basket, or a pile of heavy equipment do you think about engaging your core muscles to support your back? No, your body automatically engages those muscles. Oov strengthens your core without the conscious thought required during other core training techniques. It’s like subliminally training your core to activate when your body needs it during exercise and activity. But, more than that, the Oov improves movement in your joints which allows each part of your body to perform as it is meant to.
Oov training enables elite athletes to perform at their peak yet it is gentle enough for rehabilitation of a recent injury or operation. Hamilton based Ironman triathlete, Bevan Littler, said that it is since coming along to Oov classes that he has been able to complete his 180km cycle without back pain. Because the Oov strengthens the core and teaches it to engage whenever needed, Oov training is helpful for almost everybody. The first step in using an Oov is to develop the ability to balance on it. From there, you can introduce a wide range of movements to challenge your core muscles to strengthen to a greater measure.
